COACH PAUL
Paul Nguyen is a dedicated Student Massage Therapist with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology. With a passion for Freestyle Wrestling, Paul has been coaching since 2022, bringing his expertise to the Real Amateur Wrestling Club and Olympia Sports Camp.
Over the past three years, Paul has developed a coaching philosophy centered on three key principles: "Feel the Learning, Trust the Process, and Embrace the Grind." This approach reflects his commitment to fostering both the physical and mental growth of his athletes, guiding them to achieve their full potential on and off the mat.
As a former interscholastic and collegiate wrestler, Paul has a rich athletic background. He was recognized as an Ontario Scholar, University Alumni, and member of the Dean's Circle of Scholars. His wrestling accolades include being an All-Canadian and All-Provincial athlete, including being a 2017 OFSAA Silver Medalist, a multiple-time Provincial Championship medalist, and achieving top rankings in the USports and OUA Athletic Conferences. Paul was ranked #2 in the country and held the #1 spot in the province twice, from October 2017 to January 2018 and again from October 2018 to January 2019.
Paul's experience and achievements make him a knowledgeable and inspiring coach, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of wrestling talent.
COACH ROBERT
Robert Deonarine is a highly accomplished and dedicated wrestling coach with a rich history in the sport. Robert's passion for wrestling was evident early in his career as a former Etobicoke Wrestling Champion and Tri-City Wrestling Champion. He competed at the prestigious OFSAA wrestling championships for multiple years, showcasing his talent and determination on the provincial stage.
Robert’s academic achievements are equally impressive. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto, followed by a Bachelor of Education from York University. He later completed a Master’s degree at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). This strong academic foundation complements his commitment to fostering excellence both on and off the mat.
For over a decade, Robert has served as the Head Wrestling Coach at Central Peel Secondary School. In this role, he has mentored and inspired countless athletes, instilling a culture of discipline, perseverance, and success. Among his coaching achievements is leading his girls’ wrestling team to capture a ROPSSAA Wrestling Championship in the late 2010s—a testament to his ability to nurture talent and guide teams to victory.
Now part of the Real Amateur Wrestling Club in Brampton, Robert brings his wealth of experience, passion for the sport, and dedication to developing the next generation of athletes. His journey as a champion wrestler, seasoned coach, and mentor continues to inspire and elevate the wrestling community.
